Travel suggestions to Lagunen!
The heart of Sweden...
Welcome to Lagunen, in Bohuslän Sweden!

Today Lagunen is a campsite that offers joyous and unique outdoor experiences of accommodation, environment, activities and food in an environment largely characterized by the archipelago.

Another active day! A little bit inland, you will find a marked hiking trail, called ‘Kuststigen’, or coastal path. Although the name suggests otherwise, today you walk inland and large parts through the forest. However, the route partly passes the Idefjord and that is rewarded with beautiful views! You follow the route on your own. You walk on forest paths and unpaved roads. The highlight of the route, literally and figuratively, is a viewpoint in the far north, near the border of Norway. Here you have a beautiful view from a hilltop and viewing over the Idefjord, Norway, the old and new Svinsuns bridge that connects Sweden with Norway over the Idefjord and, when the weather is clear, the mountains of Norway in the distance. The view here is truly spectacular!
The route continues directly along the idefjord and ends at the old Svinesunds bridge, the first bridge over the idefjord that connected Sweden with Norway. The whole trip is very varied. Along the way you will come across several places where clear stone has been carved. A lucrative business until about 1977. The granite of this region has a special composition and can be found throughout Europe in various constructions!
You have the whole day to enjoy the surroundings at your own pace and in peace. Are you traveling with children? Then we adjust the route and take a shorter walk past an imposing cave and to the top of a hill with a grill area and a beautiful view over the forests, Strömstad and the coast.
Facts:
– This hike is about 7,5km
– The hike is veried with some easy parts and some harder parts.
– Level of the hike: medium
After two active days, it’s time to relax. Today there are no activities planned during the day and you can decide for yourself what you will do. The options are endless. For example, a visit to the Koster Islands (Marine National Park) is definitely worth a visit! Or maybe you’ve got the hang of it and want to spend another day mountain biking or hiking? For example, a walk to ‘Älgfallet’, a waterfall of no less than 46 meters high. The tour guide can give you endless tips about the possibilities. Of course you can also use this day to enjoy yourself on or near the water.
In the morning you will be met by a guide on the beach for a beautiful kayak trip along the various islands off the coast of Strömstad. First you get a full set of equipment. Kayak, paddle and life jacket. We paddle together along the countless islands. You will see that the world looks very different from the water. The water is extremely clear. Oysters, fish, crabs, starfish… you can see them all! On the way we moor on an island beach and eat our packed lunch. In Sweden we are in no hurry, so when the weather is nice we can also take a dip in the water! We close the active week with an ultimate reward: a wood-fired sauna and hot tub at the campsite, right by the water. Cooling down in between is easy, from the riser you can plunge straight into the water. Dinner is served in the authentic red boathouse right next to the sauna. Lobsters and shrimps! You won’t find them fresher than here.
Facts:
– The kayaktour is about 5 hours including breaks, fika and instructions.
– This activity requires no prior knowledge.
– You need to be able to swim.
All good things must come to an end! It’s time to say goodbye to the group and Strömstad. You must leave the cottages by 12 am at the latest. What is it that makes Bohuslän so unique and beautiful, and a must-experience?
Experience Bohuslän, the heart of Sweden!
Bohuslän is a region in western Sweden that is known for its stunning coastline, beautiful archipelago, and unique culture. There are several reasons why Bohuslän is so unique and worth experiencing – down below are a few of them!
Bohuslän has a long and rugged coastline that is dotted with picturesque fishing villages and small islands. The rocky cliffs and granite boulders along the shoreline create a dramatic landscape that is unlike anywhere else in Sweden and the rest of the world. The coastline stretches for about 280 kilometers, from the Koster Islands in the south to Strömstad in the north, and is part of the larger Bohuslän region. The landscape is characterized by rocky cliffs, rolling hills, and small coves, with hundreds of small islands and islets just offshore.
One of the most famous features of the Bohuslän coastline is the striking red Bohus granite that is found in the rocks and cliffs along the shore. The granite was used extensively in the construction of many buildings throughout Sweden, including Stockholm’s City Hall and the Gothenburg Art Museum.
The coastline is also home to numerous small fishing villages, each with its own unique charm and character. Many of these villages have been around for centuries and are still actively involved in the fishing industry. Visitors can stroll along the narrow streets, admire the colorful houses, and sample some of the fresh seafood that the region is famous for.
Another highlight of the Bohuslän coastline is the archipelago, which consists of thousands of small islands and islets. Many of these islands are uninhabited and offer a peaceful retreat for nature lovers. Visitors can explore the archipelago by boat, kayak, or on foot, and can enjoy the unique scenery, including rocky shorelines, sandy beaches, and hidden coves.
In summary, the Bohuslän coastline is a unique and beautiful landscape that offers visitors a glimpse into Sweden’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. From the striking red granite cliffs to the charming fishing villages and the tranquil archipelago, there is no shortage of things to see and experience along this stunning stretch of coast.
The archipelago boasts a rugged and breathtaking landscape composed of rocky outcrops, tiny bays, and isolated coves, where visitors can enjoy a range of activities such as swimming, fishing, diving, kayaking, and boating.
The Bohuslän archipelago is rich in flora and fauna and is a sanctuary for many species, including sea eagles, seals, and various fish. Many of the islands in the archipelago are uninhabited, providing a peaceful escape for nature lovers. Visitors can take a ferry or boat to explore the larger islands, such as Koster isles, where they can walk along the rocky coastline, wander through picturesque fishing villages, or relax on the secluded beaches. There are also many smaller islands that are only accessible by boat, offering visitors an exclusive and remote experience.
In summary, the Bohuslän archipelago is a breathtaking and distinctive destination that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the natural beauty and cultural traditions of Sweden’s western coast. With its rugged landscape, tranquil atmosphere, and endless opportunities for exploration, the Bohuslän archipelago is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for a unique and memorable experience.
Bohuslän is famous for its seafood, particularly its lobsters, shrimps, prawns and oysters. The region’s cold and nutrient-rich waters are ideal for cultivating shellfish, and there are several excellent seafood restaurants where visitors can sample these local delicacies. At Lagunen you can even experience the most fresh seafood where we cook it together by the sea.
Bohuslän, located on the west coast of Sweden, has a long and fascinating cultural history that is shaped by its coastal geography, Viking past, unique architecture, and cuisine. The region’s reliance on fishing and maritime activities for centuries has influenced its economy and culture, with fishing villages dotting the coastline and playing a vital role in the area’s identity.
The Viking history of Bohuslän is another significant aspect of its cultural heritage, with several Viking sites scattered throughout the region. Bohuslän’s architecture also reflects its cultural history, with many buildings constructed from the red Bohus granite that is abundant in the area. The granite was used to construct churches and other notable buildings throughout Sweden in the early 20th century.
Food is another important part of Bohuslän’s cultural tradition, with seafood playing a central role in the region’s cuisine. The local fishermen catch a variety of fish, including herring, cod, and lobster, which are featured in many of the region’s restaurants. Oysters, harvested off the coast of Grebbestad, are also a local specialty.
