Practice round entirely on tarmac
If you prefer road cycling on tarmacked roads, your best option is to look north or east of Strömstad. An obvious destination for many road cyclists in this area is across the border to Norway. It is fairly unique to be able to cycle in two countries on the same day. The quality of the road surface varies but is generally very good. Once you enter Norway, the surface quality generally improves. If you prefer a slightly longer trip, there are many nice destinations to choose from.
The old Road E6 offers lovely long stretches
This route is mainly intended to be used as a practice round with good quality surfaces, but no particular visitor destinations. It starts by heading north towards Strömstad and through the town centre. Once leaving the centre, it turns east, to again assume a northerly direction by the fire station.
After almost 10 kilometres, it again turns east and continues underneath Road E6 before following the old E6 road back towards the south. Before Skee, it turns slightly inland before continuing along the old E6 road. Once reaching Vik, after approximately 30 kilometres, it turns north again before arriving back at Lagunen.
Difficulty
Easy cycling with plenty of places to stop.
Approximate distance

Duration
Depends entirely on how fit you are. At an average speed of 25 km/h it takes around 1.5h.
Markings
No markings. You ride on paths, gravel roads and sealed roads. Use an app and download the GPX file.
Which map application do you use?
Lagunen has decided to focus on three apps, which we find work well in our area. All have useful free versions available, although a paid subscription obviously means more features. You can also download the GPX file to your own favourite app. In addition, our reception sells a useful leisure map, scale 1:50,000.
- Viewranger: This app has a good user interface and useful map functions. Originally designed for hiking and navigating in forests and nature. Easy to create trips and plan routes. We use it mainly for hiking and trail riding. Integrates with Openstreetmap, which is very up-to-date in our area.
- Trailforks: This is home turf for trail riders. The app is a meeting place for anyone who enjoys cycling in woodland. Free maps make it easy to find good trail riding routes.
- Strava: This app has been around for a long time and has many users in our area. This means that it is very up-to-date and includes recommendations for both road cycling and mountain biking.
Book your stay!
Stay near the archipelago of Strömstad
At Lagunen you stay right by the ocean, where the Strömstad archipelago begins. The site has lots to enjoy and discover. Will you spend the day exploring Strömstad, enjoying a boat trip on Kosterhavet, or relaxing and catching crabs from Mali’s jetty, right next to Lagunen’s own beach? At Lagunen you wake to the sound of lapping waves, shrieking seagulls and the sea breeze from Kosterhavet, which finds its way into the bay all year round – what time you wake up is up to you.
