Stay in the Strömstad archipelago
At Lagunen, you stay right where the sea and the Strömstad archipelago begin. There is always something to discover here. Will it be a full day in Strömstad, a boat trip on the Koster Sea or a quiet day crab fishing from Mali’s jetty, right next to Lagunen’s bathing beach? At Lagunen, you wake up to the sound of lapping waves, seagulls crying and the sea breeze from the Koster Sea blowing into the bay all year round – it’s up to you to decide when.

A history-themed boat trip among the islands
An incredibly beautiful boat trip visiting less well-known historic sites and focusing on local culture. Hear tales of the herring era, which brought speakeasies and other types of shady businesses. Listen to stories about herring fishing, constables, bootleggers, fishermen and seafarers. As we make our way past rocks, islands and beaches, we journey from the herring era of the 19th century to the mined waters of the second world war.
More about the boat trip
Many of the stories are completely true, others perhaps less so, but still very entertaining. Tales and legends from the north of Bohuslän and about the people who lived on the islands. All mixed with coffee and something a little stronger.
The fisherman’s son joins the tour as a troubadour, using performances, drinking songs and communal singing to guide the tour. A meal from the menu of the day is served onboard.
Please note that this guided tour must be pre-booked before 12 pm on the day of departure. Bookings must also be made for children under 6, as the boat has a maximum passenger capacity.
This trip is offered in partnership with Strömstad’s History Society.

The fairytale of Strömstad
Much more than prawns and swimming
Strömstad, the Summer Town, is located in a part of Scandinavia once simply known as ‘The Bay’. This area has been inhabited since the Early Stone Age. Join us on a journey through the historical periods that shaped Strömstad, including detailed descriptions of some important people through the ages. This trip departs from Lagunen’s pier throughout July!
More about the boat trip
This trip will take you on a journey through the historic periods that shaped Strömstad, including detailed tales of some important people through the ages. Learn about the timber site, Strömmen, which was built in the 16th century and how it after the Peace Treaty of Roskilde in 1658, when Bohuslän became Swedish, developed into a town. We will also touch on the period between the 1880s and 1920, which could be described as Strömstad’s golden age. Reasons included the stone industry, another herring era, and shipping. Would you like to learn more about Strömstad and its history? Welcome aboard!

The gem of Kosterhavet
This guided boat trip offers an opportunity to visit both Ursholmen, Sweden’s most westerly lighthouse, and the mythical Sydkoster with its beautiful natural landscape. On the journey through the archipelago, our guide talks about Kosterhavet and the surrounding area. There is a good chance of encountering seals on the islands around Koster. Perhaps time for a ‘sealfie’…?
More about the boat trip
This trip has two booking options. You can either choose the one that only visits Koster or add a visit to Ursholmen to experience this as well. You can spend 30 minutes on Ursholmen or 2.5 hours on the Koster Islands, but also fit in both.
On Ursholmen, we are met by the Lighthouse Keeper, Axel Haglund, who talks about his and his family’s life on the island. He explains in great detail how the families lived and what their daily lives looked like, and about the children who attended school both on Ursholmen and Koster. An exciting story with plenty of feeling that will take you back to a bygone era, mixed with magical views of the horizon.
The Koster Islands offer plenty to do for all the family. Activities include cycling, snorkelling, walking through a unique landscape, and a refreshing dip from one of the many beaches. After a busy morning, you have a choice of a number of nice restaurants where you can relax and enjoy a tasty meal.
